Tithing: Biblical Principles of Giving

Tithing, giving the first tenth to God, appears throughout Scripture, from Abraham to Jesus. It expresses trust in God as provider and supports those dedicated to ministry.

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse... and prove me now herewith" (Malachi 3:10)

Note: Tithing predates the Mosaic Law. Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:20), and many Christians see in this an enduring stewardship principle that acknowledges God as the true owner of all we have. Jesus treated tithing as obedience in His own covenant setting (Matthew 23:23), while the New Testament also calls believers to generous, willing giving.
