When Statistics Become Spiritual Verdicts

Scripture commands Christians to test teachers, doctrine, and fruit. The test must examine the teaching and its evidence without diagnosing a person, congregation, or denomination as cursed by God.

What Numbers Can Establish

A reliable source can report a measured rate, survey response, closure, bankruptcy, allegation, or finding. The number must retain its population, date, definition, and source. It can establish the measured fact within those limits.

It cannot, by itself, establish why the event happened. Mental illness, medication use, suicide, disaster, financial failure, and membership decline have many possible causes. Calling them divine plagues requires a theological argument the statistic does not supply.

What Scripture Forbids Us to Assume

In John 9, the disciples asked whether a man's blindness proved his sin or his parents' sin. Jesus rejected the proposed diagnosis. In Luke 13, He rejected the inference that victims of violence and a collapsed tower were worse sinners than others, while turning the warning toward every hearer's need for repentance.

Those passages do not deny divine judgment. They deny our right to infer an individual's guilt from suffering. Revelation's plagues are judgments within the vision's own argument. Identifying a current illness rate, storm, or institutional loss with one of those plagues requires evidence beyond a visual resemblance.

A Usable Test

  1. State the exact teaching or conduct being examined.
  2. Read the cited biblical passage in context and state the competing interpretation.
  3. Verify every empirical number against the named source, date, and population.
  4. Separate correlation from cause and institutional evidence from individual guilt.
  5. State the theological conclusion as an argument whose biblical and historical steps can be examined.

The Book's Claim

This book argues that modern churches can compromise truth and that Revelation calls God's people out of Babylon. That claim must be defended from Scripture and documented history. It does not become stronger by treating sickness, medication, suicide, disaster, or disagreement as proof that God has identified particular people as a plague.
